Our beloved mother and family matriarch, Linda Gail Singley Stansbury, 86, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026.
Her life will be celebrated with a Rosary and Vigil at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Amarillo. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery immediately following the Mass. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo.
Linda was born on Sept. 28, 1939, in Wellington, Texas, to Margaret Goforth and Jones Singley. She was the eldest of four sisters and married Frederick A. “Ted” Stansbury (1938-2018) in 1957.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ted; sisters Jennifer Burdette and Beverly Junell; and one grandson. She is survived by her sister; five sons and their beloved children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Linda met the love of her life, Frederick Alexander “Ted” Stansbury, when she was 14. Active in school organizations, Linda played the flute in the band and served as Drum Majorette. After graduating from Wellington High School in 1957, she and Ted married and began their 61-year journey through life together.
After Ted graduated from Texas Tech University, he was commissioned into the U.S. Navy and became a Naval Aviator the same year. Linda was the quintessential military wife, known as a superb hostess and mentor to other military wives.
During more than 20 years of military service, Linda “held down the fort,” raising five very athletic and very active boys while Ted was on deployment. She referred to herself as a short-order cook, cooking three home cooked meals daily for her own army of boys. She practiced “catch” with the boys in the backyard, was the home run slugger for her ladies’ softball team and was a fiercely competitive bridge player well into her 80s.
While raising the boys, the family lived in Florida, California, Maine, and Texas. The couple retired in 1981 to Corpus Christi and eventually returned home to Amarillo in 1998 to be closer to family. Her homemade baking skills and shared handwritten recipes were legendary and survive across the family – chocolate cake, prune cake, cherry pie, banana bread, or cool whip salad!
Linda was a deeply loving sister, mother of five, grandmother of 13, great-grandmother of six and great-great-grandmother of one. She took great pride in promoting and supporting her husband, boys, and their families, fueling their ambitions and resilience to achieve.
As the Stansbury family matriarch, she was exceptionally strong willed, loved with her entire heart, was relentlessly supportive, and predictably stubborn on many occasions. As a “Muse” to many within the family, her wit, endearing love of family, resilience, and mentorship shaped the lives of everyone around her. Her commitment to family was most important in her unyielding love of her sons, which grounded them well, powered their motivation to flourish, and helped bond them forever.
Having lived a happy life defined by love, kindness, and devotion to God and her family, she will be remembered for her love of a big family gathering, the Grinch, Snickers candy bars, a fresh Boston Cream donut, Days of Our Lives, Star Trek, Dr. Pepper, the Boston Red Sox, and the “winning” Dallas Cowboys. One of her true joys in life was traveling the world with her sisters.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love and memories long-lasting.
