Dickie Ray Forkner, 79, of Wellington, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026.
Graveside services with Military Honors by the U.S. Army will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at North Fairview Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21.
He was born on April 15, 1947, in Arkansas City, Kan., to Ray W. and Betty N. Starks Forkner. Dickie married Jewel Hartman on Dec. 10, 1967, in Lefors.
In October 1966, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic training, Dickie served two years in Vietnam during the war. He continued his service to his country until July 1985 when the Army retired him at the rank of Staff Sargent due to his service- connected disability after over 18 years. Dickie then worked in civil service in Kansas, and he worked as a policeman in Council Grove and Alma, Kan. Truck driving then became his profession until he retired.
He and Jewel moved to Wellington from Alta Vista, Kan. in 2015 to be near family.
Dickie was a lifelong Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Owen and Keota Forkner; and a granddaughter, Ellie Forkner.
Dickie is survived by his wife Jewel, of Wellington; two daughters, Shelly Forkner, of Wellington, and Davita Wishon and husband Mark, of Council Grove; his son, Dakota Forkner, of Alta Vista; a brother, Billy Forkner and wife Haley and his sister, Rhonda Hunt, both of Wasilla, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
