Laura Ann Whitson, 71, of Cuero, Texas, went to be with our Lord on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, after living a beautiful life.

Laura was born Jan. 30, 1952, to Al Stanley and Olas Williams Whitson at home on the family farm in the Texas Panhandle. She attended elementary through high school at Samnorwood Independent School District (ISD). Laura then went to college at Abilene Christian University and received a B.S.Ed., and then her M.Ed. degree in 1975. She also attended post-graduate school at The University of Texas at Austin.

Laura was an educator for 39 years. She taught elementary school and was an elementary principal and superintendent. She worked at Eula ISD, Region XIV Education Service Center in Abilene,Liberty Hill ISD and Meyersville ISD.

She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was involved in Pilot Club of Cuero, Delta Kappa Gamma Society Intl.- Alpha Phi Chapter, Phi Delta Kappa, Texas Association of School Administrators, Texas Association of Community Schools and many others. Representing DeWitt and Lavaca counties,Laura was still serving on the Region 3 Service Center Board of Directors, at the time of her passing.

Laurawasprecededindeath by her parents; two sisters, Sue Pollard, of Brownfield, Texas, and Carolyn Baldwin, of Brackettville, Texas; and a brother, Wayne Whitson, of Lubbock,Texas.

Laura is survived by her sister, Doris and husband Neil Billingsley, of Plainview, Texas; her brother, Tom Whitson, of Amarillo, Texas; two nieces; seven nephews; seven great-nieces; and twelve great nephews. She was also blessed by the Chris Crain family and many close friends.

To these loved ones she leaves behind,we look forward to one day being reunited with her. Let us find comfort that the Lord Jesus has welcomed Laura home, and His eternal light is shining upon her.

Visitation will take place at Freund Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Monday evening, Jan. 22, 2024. A private family burial will take place Tuesday afternoon. A Celebration of Laura’s Life will be held at the Ann Friar Thomas Homemaking Building from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses at Citizens Medical Center, including the PAM unit on floor 6, as well as Dr. Meyer; PA, Jo Beth; Pastor Larry and the many wonderful nurses at Hospice of South Texas - Dornburg Center of Compassion.
