Orvilla Hubbard Evans, 85, of Memphis, Texas, died Friday, July 19, 2024, in Amarillo, Texas.
Services took place at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2024, in the First Baptist Church in Memphis with Rev. Daniel Downey officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis. Viewing was held Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the funeral home with the family receiving friends for visitation from 4-6 p.m. Arrangements were by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
Orvilla was born May 5, 1939, in Hagerman, Texas to John William and Myrtle Leona Burleson Hubbard. She married Ray Evans on Aug. 28, 1958, in Lesley,Texas.
Orvilla owned and operated Orvilla’s Day Care Center for a remarkable 44 years, worked at Hope for You in Childress, Texas for several years and served as a visitation hostess for Robertson Funeral Directors for 10 years.
She was heavily involved in many organizations, including the Memphis Lions Club, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Rolling Plains, Childress Regional Medical Center (CRMC) Hospice as a volunteer, Snack Pak 4 Kids, Fairview Cemetery Association, Girl Scouts, Memphis Independent School District (ISD) School Board, Memphis Housing Authority and Hall County Tax Appraisal Board. She was a longtime resident of Hall County and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Memphis, where she served in multiple capacities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, DeEdra Evans; two brothers,J.W.Hubbard,Jr.and Ray Hubbard; and four sisters, Una Lea Gann, Ida Mae Wiggins, Illa Faye Booth and Nannie Kelley.
Survivors include her daughter, DeVilla Evans, of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Mary Miller, of Memphis; a brother, Dwight Hubbard, of DeSoto, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and her kids.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to a favorite charity of choice.
