Martin Garza Casas,79,of Edinburg, Texas, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas.
Viewing took place from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at Robertson Funeral Home in Memphis, Texas. Rosary Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, also at Robertson Funeral Home, in Memphis. A memorial drive throughout the City of Memphis enroute to the cemetery followed.
Martin was born Sept. 21, 1945, in Edinburg to Placido and Genoveva Casas. He married Juanita Casas on May 6, 1970.
He proudly worked for and served the City of Memphis for 27 years and was a father figure to three generations of strong, kind-hearted children. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family, playing games, eating good food, singing and dancing. He liked to play bingo with his wife and kids, and he kept his mind sharp by completing daily crossword puzzles and word finds.
Martin also loved to watch westerns, football and basketball. You could always find him tapping his feet and whistling a tune, as he loved music throughout his life. He was a cherished man who was a strong fatherly role model to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Placido and Genoveva Casas; his wife, Juanita Casas; as well as his children, Martin Jr. Casas and Maria Flores.
Survivors include his siblings, Jose and Mary Casas, of Memphis, Noelia and Isidro Torres, of Amarillo, Olga and Gabriel Garza, of Amarillo, Dora and Rual Ruiz of Houston, Texas, Aminta and Cipriano Serna, of Amarillo, Norma and Juan Perez, of Elsa, Texas, Mary and Ricky Ruiz, of Altus, Okla., and Placido Jr. and Jackie Casas, of Memphis; his grandchildren, Ashley and John Brown,of Amarillo, Stephanie Flores, of Memphis, and Lisa Flores, of Amarillo; and his great-grandchildren, Delfino Escalante, of Amarillo, Izaiah Valerio, of Amarillo, Kiarra Johnson, of Memphis, Louis Brown, of Amarillo, La’Zayne Flores, of Memphis, and Za’Novia Flores, of Memphis; as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers ncluded Isidoro Jr. Torres, Ruben Torres, Micah Casas, Ismael Cabrera, Izaiah Valerio, Amillion Cabrera, Angel Cabrera and La’Zayne Flores.
