Rusty Statham entered his heavenly home on Monday, April 1, 2025, in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 70.
Services took place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the First Christian Church in Wellington, Texas, with Rev. Erron Mercer, pastor of Cornerstone Church in Wheeler, Texas, and Will Grant, minister, officiating. Interment followed at North Fairview Cemetery.Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.
Russell Eugene Statham Jr. was born on Sept. 10, 1954, in Childress, Texas, to Eugene and Oleta Snider Statham.
He graduated from Childress High School and attended Texas A&M University. He then returned to Childress to help his father run the family farm. Rusty was active in FFA and the Young Farmers of Childress.
As a child, he was baptized in the First Baptist Church and was an active member. Rusty’s first love was farming, tractors and machinery. He spent many happy hours driving his John Deere up and down the rows, listening to country music. Another favorite past time was attending farm sales.
At one particular sale, he was chatting with another farmer who introduced Rusty to his future wife. Little did they know that they would soon be brothers-inlaw. Rusty and Lennie Morgan were married on July 26, 1992, in Wellington, where they made their home. A son, Jay Morgan Statham, was born March 30, 1995.
Rusty attended Cornerstone Church in Wheeler. He absolutely loved the music and listening to Rev. Erron Mercer’s sermons.
He was preceded by his parents, Eugene and Oleta Statham; his in-laws, JI and LoRhae Morgan; and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Morgan.
Rusty is survived by his wife, Lennie, of Wellington; a son, Jay Statham, Holly and two granddaughters, Kynleigh Dawn and Adalynn LoRhae, of Wellington; his brother, David Statham and Donna, and sister, Ann Statham, all of Childress; two sisters-in-law, Penny Morgan, of Euless, Texas, and Kimberly Morgan, of Wheeler; as well as several nieces and nephews.
