Body

DENNIS FLOYD ‘SONNY’ KING JR.

Dennis Floyd “Sonny” King Jr., 65, of Memphis, Texas, passed away on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at his home.

Graveside services took place at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, at North Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, with Rev. Daniel Downey, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Memphis, officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington, Texas.

He was born on July 28, 1960, in Hollis, Okla., to Dennis Floyd King Sr. and Gail Weaver Johnson.

For 24 years, Dennis worked at the OK Tire Shop in Memphis, where his customers enjoyed seeing and chatting with him while he fixed their tire. He owned his own tire shop for a year or so and worked in road construction for several years. Later, he began his gopher trapping business and was dang good at it.

He married his first love, Dianne Kennemore, in December 1994 in Childress, Texas. She preceded him in death in 2023, and then, he met the second love of his life, Donna Ford, later in 2023. They were married on Sept. 5, 2025.

Dennis’ hobbies included cooking and fishing. He loved to cook, whether it was on the grill or in the smoker or kitchen. If he had any free time at all, you could bet that he was at a fishing hole somewhere. Twice a year, he took off to fish at Lake Kickapoo and always enjoyed fishing on Lake Texoma with Helen Ford, whom he considered a sister. Crappie fishing was his favorite because he believed there was an art to catching them.

Above all, he loved competing either on the grill or the lake, trying to out-cook or catch his best friend in life, Jack Monroe.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Donna, of Memphis; four sisters, Debra Knox, of Electra, Texas, Kathy Robinson and husband Billy, of Fowler, Okla., Alice Johnson and husband Henry Like, of Kim, Colo., and Amanda Hardesty and husband Daniel, of Hobart, Okla.; three brothers, Cliff Johnson and Kevin Johnson and wife Cheryl, both of Clarendon, and S.J. Johnson and wife Theresa Pickins, of Yukon, Okla.; two stepsons, Stephen Ford and Dustin Ford and wife Raylynn, both of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews, including Brittany Maddox, whom he helped raise.

The family suggest that donations be made to the Memphis Cemetery Association.
