DWIGHT H. BOWEN
Dwight H. Bowen, 73, of Wellington, Texas, passed away May 23, 2023, in Wellington.
Memorial services took place at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Wellington. Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Dwight was born July 13, 1949,in Wellington to King Bowen and Iris Mozelle Graham Bowen. A family affair growing up, Dwight helped deliver the “Amarillo Globe-News” and knew the community like the back of his hand. He graduated with the Wellington High School Class of 1967. Dwight earned his associate degree from Clarendon College and his bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University.
He moved back to Wellington, where he worked for Greenbelt Electric Cooperative as office manager for six years. Dwight took the position of general manager at Harmon County Electric in Hollis, Okla. for 20 plus years.
In 2012, Dwight moved back to Collingsworth County, where he served as Chief Appraiser of Collingsworth County Appraisal District. In July 2022, he resigned from the position but continued to work part-time.
He enjoyed life to the fullest and had been a member of the Wellington First Baptist Church since 1962. A member of the Adult 3 Sunday School Class, he served as the “fix it” man at the church, plus helped serve kids’ meals on Wednesdays. The chairman of the Properties Committee and Budget and Finance Committee at First Baptist, he also served as a board member of Collingsworth County Home Delivered Meals. Dwight enjoyed playing golf and traveling. He loved to give everyone he met a hard time, and he loved to tell jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra Kay “Sue”; and two brothers, Graham Bowen and Jerry Bowen.
Survivors include his daughters, Rhonda Cochran and husband Scott, and Dee Dee Needham and husband Craig; a son, Benny Ronald Heisler; grandchildren Tegan Cox, Nathan and Bri Cochran, Carson and Taylor Hall, Andi Needham and Clarence, Eric and Kacee Needham and Ben Heisler; 13 great grandchildren; siblings Wanda Kresch and Rick and Keith and Carolyn Bowen; sisters-in-law Barbara Bowen and Kathy Bowen; and numerous other family members and friends.
