EARNIE NEEL
Earnie Neel, 77, of Memphis, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, in Memphis.
Services took place at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023, in The Chapel at Fairview Cemetery, located in Memphis, with Rev. David Dumas and Rev. Brett Prince officiating. Viewing was held from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, with family receiving friends for visitation from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.
Earnie was born Oct. 9, 1945, in Amarillo, Texas, to Elmer and Lois Hassell Neel. He proudly served our country and was a U.S. Army veteran. He married Debbie Johnson on March 1, 1991, in Memphis.
He loved trap shooting and shooting sports. He qualified for the 1980 U.S. Summer Olympic shooting sports team before the Olympics were boycotted. He was invited to Washington, DC to meet the president since he made the team.
Earnie served as a State Trooper with the Department of Public Safety (DPS), worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and served several years as Hall County Sheriff prior to his retirement. He also enjoyed being a ham radio operator. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Memphis.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Clarence Neel and Chester Neel.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Neel, of Memphis; his daughter, Tanya Neel, of Springdale, Ark.; four grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Sharon Neel, of Anderson, Mo., and Mary Lou Neel, of West Fork, Ark.; and three nephews.
