ELAINA GAIL BEARDEN BARTON

Elaina Gail Bearden Barton, 78, of Wellington, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023.

Graveside services took place at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023, at North Fairview Cemetery with Keith Martin officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.

Elaina was born Sept. 23, 1945, in Wellington to Herbert and Ruby Brewer Bearden, while he served in World War II. She graduated from Wellington High School in 1964.

While John H. Barton was on leave from the U.S. Marine Corp, he proposed to Elaina. They married Nov. 7, 1964, at the home of her parents.The couple soon moved to Charleston, S.C., where he served on active duty.

Elaina and John had two children, John Aaron Barton and Stephanie Elaine Barton Gray.

Adamant that her children be raised in a church home, Elaina was actively involved in First Baptist Church for over 55 years. She served in various ministries that lead to growth of the Kingdom. She was most passionate about organizing and providing a Prayer Closet for those who could designate a time out of their day to come and pray for others.

Elaina also served as the Angel Tree Coordinator for many years, providing Christmas presents to children of an incarcerated parent. Many children throughout the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles received blessings by her faithful servanthood.

Throughout the years, Elaina also worked numerous places in Wellington. She and her sister, Mary Karen, owned and operated a flower shop called Flowers by Busy B’s. She worked at the Cottage Village in Childress, the Credit Bureau and then, Adams Funeral Home for over 17 years. She loved her time ministering to the families who came through the funeral home during their loss.

The last year of her life,she most enjoyed spending her time traveling with her two oldest great-granddaughters to their league basketball games and attending their recent flag football competitions. There wasn’t a game she missed. She was known and loved by “Nene” to all.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Barton; her parents; and her sister, Mary Karen Bearden.

Elaina is survived by her children, Aaron Barton and Shannon, of Amarillo, Texas, Stephanie Gray and her husband Brant, of Aubrey, Texas, and Vikki Barton, of Wellington; and a sister, Connie Feemster and her husband, Darrell, of Lampasas, Texas. Her grandchildren are Wesley Barton and wife Sarah, of Shallowater, Texas, Hayden Barton and wife Hannah, of Canyon, Texas, Justin Martin, and wife Whitney, of Wellington, Jessica Martin, of Stamford, Texas, and Paul and wife Laci Norris, Gage Gray and Alyx Gray, all of Aubrey, Texas. Great-grandchildren are Knox, Nixon, Lennox, Hayes, Hattie, Tatum, Kenlea and Brynlee.
