FERN NIX EMANUEL
Fern Nix Emanuel, 91, of Dumas, Texas, passed away Monday, Nov. 24, 2025.
Graveside services took place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, at North Fairview Cemetery with Darvin Nix officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington, Texas.
Ashton Mireles, Darren Bartlett, Hays Wyatt, Grady Wyatt, Tanner Wyatt and Collin Wyatt served as pallbearers.
She was born on Nov. 27, 1933, in Hegewisch, Ill., to John and Mildred Moore Fitzgerrel.
Fern received her bachelor’s degree from Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. On Feb. 25, 1956, she married Jerry Nix in Wildorado, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1985. Later, on Jan. 24, 1992, she married Ronnie Emanuel in Amarillo, Texas. He also preceded her in death in 2017.
In 1962, she returned with Jerry to his hometown of Wellington from Lubbock, Texas to work his family’s land and start their family. She began her business career, teaching school at Samnorwood for a couple of years, then became the home demonstration representative for West Texas Utilities Company in Wellington for several years. Later, she served as a substitute teacher in local schools.
Fern moved to Amarillo in 1985, shortly after Jerry’s death. She resided there until 2021, when she moved to Guymon, Okla., to be near family, and then, on to Dumas in 2023, near family also.
She was a member of the Victory Memorial Methodist Church in Guymon.
Fern was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Lisa Nix Wyatt, in 2024; and by two sisters.
Her survivors include her son, Darvin Nix and his wife, Tonya, of Guymon; son-in-law Bobby Wyatt, of Texline, Texas; two stepdaughters, Kelly Vogler and her husband, Mark, of Amarillo, and Kim Rutherford and her husband, Keith, of Wildorado; two brothers, John Fitzgerrel and wife Dottie, of Las Cruces, N.M., and Rev. Bill Fitzgerrel and wife Pam, of Mission, Kan.; four grandchildren, Tanner Wyatt and wife Jessica, of Justin, Texas, Collin Wyatt and wife Staci, of Happy, Texas, Evinn Wyatt and husband Ashton Mireles, of Dumas, and Mackencie Nix and fiancé Darren Bartlett, of Lebo, Kan.; and seven great-grandchildren, Chaise, Parker, Hays, Grady, Quincy, Tenleigh and Cannon.
