Freida Ruth (Nelson) Allen, 90, of Vinson, Okla., passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.
A memorial service took place at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at the First Christian Church in Wellington, Texas, with Mark Burrows, of Erick, Okla., officiating. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington.
Freida was born May 17, 1935, in Arp, Texas, to Rector Carl and Velma Dean Burrell Nelson.
She met Bobbi Scott Allen in December of 1954 in the elevator of the building they both worked in. They were married on April 8, 1955. To this marriage were born two sons, Christopher Scott and Robert Rex.
Freida served as the office manager at Southwestern Investments for many years before moving to Vinson in 1977, where she was a farm wife. In September of 1978, she received her GED and her certificate as a teacher’s aide.
She then decided to further her education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in the spring of 1981 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1983. She continued her schooling, and in July of 1986, graduated with honors with a master’s in education.
She became a special education teacher in 1986 at Wellington Junior High School until her retirement.
Freida was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 70 years, Bob Allen; a son, Christopher Scott, in 1966; her brother, Donald Carl; and her sister, Karen.
Her survivors include her son, Robert Allen and wife Dawn, of Vinson; two grandsons, Jackson Ross Allen, of New Castle, Okla., and Jonathan Brinkley, of Vinson; two granddaughters, Natalie Adkins, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jackie Brinkley, of Vinson; her great-grandson, Rhett Lane Allen; a sister, Dedra Antoniak, of Sunrise Beach, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
