Helen “Kay” Vaughan, 85, former Altus, Okla. resident of Oklahoma City, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024.

Kay was born to Richard and Gladys (Thompson) Snow on Sept. 28, 1939, in Illinois. She was raised in Altus and graduated from Altus High School in 1957. After high school, Kay attended the University of Oklahoma. She married the love of her life, James William “Jimmy” Vaughan, on June 8, 1957, at the Altus Church of Christ. Together, they lived in Childress, Texas, where Kay worked at Webb’s Studio and then, the Childress Greenhouse. The family moved to Shawnee, Okla., and Kay worked for Graves Floral. She retired in 2000. Her daughters were her pride and joy. She loved being a mother and a grandmother. Kay was talented and artistic. She enjoyed painting, as well as floral design. What Kay loved most in the world, however, was spending time with her grandchildren. She made many everlasting memories with them, and her love will be with them always. Kay will be missed dearly.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jimmy, and her parents, Richard Snow and Gladys ( Jean) Snow Bailey.

Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Vaughan Hyde and husband Mark, of Little Elm, Texas, and Leslie Vaughan McWhorter and husband Mike, of Norman, Okla.; a sister, Jerri Lynn Wesley and husband Dr. David Wesley, of Omaha, Neb.; her grandchildren, Kelsey Elyse Hyde, of Dallas, Bryce McWhorter, of Norman, Okla., and Dr. Chad McWhorter and wife Megan, of Oklahoma City; and a niece, Shannon Maxey, husband Kent and their children, Madison and Mason, of Kingwood, Texas; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at the Granite City Cemetery. Arrangements were under the care of the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
