James Michael “Mike” Peters went home to his Lord and Savior on the morning of April 4, 2024, in Gulf Breeze, Fla. at the age of 72. He was born on Sept. 6, 1951, to Marshall and Louise Peters in Wellington,Texas.
After high school, Mike moved to Amarillo, Texas, where he met and married Debbie. The couple began their 50-plus-year journey together in 1973. Together, they raised two girls, Sheila and Denise. During this time, they lived in Texas and Oklahoma and back in Texas before moving to Milton, Fla. in 1995 to be near their girls. Here is where he owned and operated M & D Janitorial Service for over 20 years.
A kind, caring and hardworking man, Mike gave his all to his family. Never one to meet a stranger – especially if he discovered that they were also from Texas – Mike loved to chat one-on-one with people. He cherished God, his family, his home, his home state of Texas and his country.
In his leisure time, you could find him tending to the plants in his yard, spending time with family, repairing things around his house, reading a western novel, listening to country music or watching the races at the dirt track.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Marshall, and his mother, Louise.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie; his daughters, Sheila Glover (Gary) and Denise Keiley (Gus); his sister, Judy Dollar, of Wellington; nephew Billy Dollar (Dusti), of Wellington; grandchildren Michael Glover (Rebecca), Brett Waid ( Jennifer), Ryan Waid and Sophia Keiley; great-grandchildren Gabriel, Addilyn, Mya, Brooklyn, Reid, Sawyer, Jude, Charlee, Owen and Noah; greatniece and nephews, Raquel, Brayson and Barrett, of Wellington; and several cousins, as well as his two sweet dogs.
Whether he was known to you as “Mike,” “Daddy,” “PaPa” or “Snicklefritz,” he will be greatly missed. The love Mike shared continues on through the lives of his loved ones and can be seen in every bluebonnet that blooms, every American or Texas flag flying, every day of honest, hard work and every beautiful sunrise and sunset giving us the tiniest glimpse into the Heaven in which he resides today.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 11 a.m.Sunday, June 30, 2024, at the Holley By The Sea Recreation Center Beach House, 6845 Navarre Parkway, Navarre, FL 32566.
