JOHN HENRY MOSS JR.
John Henry Moss Jr., 67, of Childress, Texas, ran through Heaven’s gates on Friday, March 20, 2026.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26 at Westhill Community Church, with Jeramy Miller officiating.
John was born on July 17, 1958, to John Henry Sr. and Christine Virginia Moss. He was the apple of his momma’s eye, and although he might have, he did no wrong according to her. He grew up in Plainview, Texas and moved to Childress his eighth-grade year and graduated in 1976 from Childress High School. His older brother, Kenneth George, “Pierre,” was a great role model and a source of strength to him for so many years. He had a successful career with Burlington Northern Sante Fe for 39 years.
John married the love of his life, Theresa Jane Goodwin, on June 22, 2002. Over the last 23 years, they have built a life of love and precious dedication to one another, finding hope in every tragedy, past and present. They have clung to the promise that “all things work together for good to those who love God.”
John didn’t just have a love of music; it was his language. He spoke in the cry of a steel guitar and sang with a conviction of a gentle, meager man. Every guitar string he touched came to life, sharing his precious memories, love for others and love for Jesus. If he wasn’t playing or talking about music, you could guarantee he was playing or talking about golf. And if you asked him, he had just about perfected his swing!
Sentimental and kind to all and such special compassion for animals, John was deeply gentle in every approach. He loved the outdoors; he had a deep intrigue for guns and hunting, and he loved the land. He loved the movie “El Dorado,” and in his fun nature, could quote almost every line and may or may not be in costume. He loved his grandchildren, filling his cup as often as he could of every one of them. He loved his church; beyond the four walls, he loved God’s people and he loved His Savior.
John’s life was filled with mountains of beautiful moments and some valleys of tragic loss. John’s first wife, Deborah Jean, mother of Malissa and Morgan, passed away Dec. 31, 1986. John’s second wife, Molly Beth, mother of Justin and Leif, passed away Dec. 6, 2000. John’s parents and his brother, Kenneth George Moss, preceded him in death. He lost lots of four-legged friends over the years, but his first cat, Cole Thornton, and his rescue German Shepherd, Tori, were precious pets that he loved dearly.
John is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Jane; his children, Malissa Felton and husband Russell, Morgan Love and husband Justin, Justin Moss and wife Amanda, Leif Moss and wife Brittany, Marika Willis and husband Jimmy, Krissi Parks and husband Kito; his grandchildren, Reid Felton, Hannah Love, Scarlet Love, Chloe Chilton, Gavin Moss, Aurora Moss, Emersyn Moss, Justin Ray Willis-wife Nicole, Justin Willis and wife Misty, Jason Willis and wife Candice, Jordan Willis and fiancé Victoria, Kibriana Yannazzo and wife Gillian, Kai Bonner, Katia Bonner and Kasia Bonner; his sister, Rosemary Stewart; and a host of family, including great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and more.
