Joseph “Danny” Ammons, 81, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Crossroads Country Church, 14425 FM 1541, with Pastor Bob Miller officiating.
Danny was born Oct. 19, 1941, in Wellington, Texas to Wes and Frances Ammons. He graduated from Wellington High School and went on to serve in the Army National Guard. He married the love of his life, Sherry Mc-Danel, on May 25, 1962. They celebrated 60 years of marriage last summer. Danny worked for the Diamond Shamrock – McKee Plant in Dumas, Texas for 36 years, retiring in 2002 as a supervisor in the instrument department.
In his spare time, Danny liked to fish and hunt. He and Sherry enjoyed traveling in their RV and camping out. Danny enjoyed fixing and working on things and spending time with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Ammons; his son, Jeff Ammons and wife Stephanie, of Panhandle, Texas; his daughter, Diane Wilborn and husband Bobby, of The Colony, Texas; his brother, James Ammons and wife Janet, of Wellington, Texas; five grandchildren, Christopher Wilborn (Haley), Michael Wilborn (Missy), Melissa Wilborn, Jace Ammons (Emily Collins) and Dax Ammons; and four great-grandchildren, Grace, Hank, Kaylei and Kamden.
