LEON RICHARD ‘DICK’ CHAMBLESS

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Leon Richard “Dick” Chambless, 95, who passed away July 28. 2024. He was born on April 24,1929, in Dimmitt, Texas, and his family finally settled in Muleshoe,Texas, where he attended school through to graduation.

After graduation he went into the Air Force, where he served in several locations. After arriving in Childress, Texas as a Recruiter, he met and married Dorothy Ann Stahl. After continuing his Air Force career, he took an opportunity to enter a new field called computer programming. A few years into the computer programming field, he went into Civil Service, where he continued until he retired with an accumulated 37 combined years of Active Duty and Civil Service. He was immensely proud of his military service and his accomplishments while he served.

Through his years living in Schertz, Texas, he also served on the city council, was a volunteer fireman and was on the Cibolo Creek Authority panel while owning two different businesses with partners, being active in the Lions Club and being a Little League coach.

After moving to Childress, he renewed his membership with the Lions Club for a few years and then, became a member of the Masonic Lodge for 20 years. During his time with Masonic Lodge #695, he was raised to a Master Mason in February 2005 and an endowed member in December of the same year. He received the Prestigious Golden Trowel Award on August 31, 2009, and served as Worshipful Master in 2007-2008. He also served as Junior Warden, Senior Warden, Senior Steward and Treasurer while a member.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan; his son, Steven; four grandchildren, Justin, Jason, Megan and Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Tony and Grey; and many family members that will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his father, George; his mother, Mrytle; his brother, Brit; and his sisters, Hazel and Mattie.

Leon lived with a smile on his face while enjoying life,and everyone that has been told of his passing has remarked that they have never met a better man, that he was a good man and that they were proud to have known him.
