Maria R. Lopez, 71, of Wellington, Texas, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, at home surrounded by her family.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, with Fr. Marco Antonio as celebrant. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home of Wellington. A rosary took place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2026, at Adams Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Trey Lopez, Sammy Lopez, Jose Jacinto Lopez, Rogelio Granadoz, Raul Rojas, Enrique Jaimes, T.J. Salinas and Tony Moreno.
Maria was born April 17, 1954, in Migel Aleman, Tamaulipas, Mexico, to Jacinto and Martina Villegas. She married Jesus Lopez on June 23, 1974, in La Casita Ranch, Texas. He preceded her in death in July 2025.
The family moved to Wellington in 1990 from Rio Grande City. Maria served as a homemaker and as a member of the Catholic Church.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.
Maria is survived by her children, Jesus Lopez Jr. and wife Jennifer, Rosie Rojas and husband Raul, Emilio Lopez and fiancé Teresa Leavitt, Samuel Lopez, Beatriz Jaimes and husband Henry and Jose Jacinto Lopez and wife Ginny; 26 grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren.
