Visitation took place from 10 a.m.noon on Thursday, July 10 at Mountain Valley Funeral Home, Joshua, Texas, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Bethesda Cemetery, Burleson, Texas.
The youngest of six children, Melba was born on Sept. 21, 1932, in Marilla, Collingsworth County, Texas, to Leonard Albert and Mattie Alice Killian Wall. She married George Hinson on Sept. 20, 1952, in Hereford, Texas, and had two children, Dennis and DeAnna.
She lived in many places, including Odessa, Hurst, Alvarado, Burleson and Wellington. Melba also served in many different professions, including teletype operator, clothing store owner, bookkeeper and caregiver. In April 2017, Allsup’s personnel at the 15th St. store in Wellington recognized Grandma Melba upon her retirement at 84 for 10 years of dedicated service.
A proud member of First Baptist Church of Wellington, Melba lived first to serve God in WMU, to teach Sunday school and even traveled to Africa on a mission trip in her 80s. Second to her love of God came her unconditional love for her family and friends. She loved getting together to visit and especially loved playing cards. She took great pride in being Mom, Mawmaw, Grandma Melba, Aunt Melba, sister and friend.
Melba was preceded in death by her husband in July 1974; her parents; three brothers and their spouses; and two sisters and their spouses; as well as several other beloved family members and dear friends.
She is survived by her son, Dennis Hinson and wife Carmen, of Wellington; daughter DeAnna Cossabone and husband Alan, of Weatherford, Texas; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
