MICHAEL BRENT HOWARD

Oh, my, after 62 times around the sun, Michael Brent Howard, of Wellington, Texas, formerly of Hollis, Okla., received his fins on Feb. 26, 2026.

The baby of nine children, Mike was born Oct. 14, 1963, in Hollis, Okla., to Edward “Buck” and Ruth Howard. He went to school in Hollis and graduated in 1981. After graduation, he attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.

As a teenager, Mike worked at the Hollis Sale Barn, where his mom served as the cook at the café. He helped farmers in Harmon County and also trained as an EMT.

In 1994, Mike left college and moved back home to take care of his mom after his dad died. He began his career with Veritas Seismograph Company in late 1994. He served the company for 20 plus years, traveling and working overseas and all over the USA. After the oil bust in 2018, Mike went to work for Robert Owens at Wellington Tractor Parts.

He met Tina (Rankin) Wolf, who had also attended Hollis High School, in the spring of 2000. Married Aug. 10, 2001, Mike and Tina became residents of Wellington.

An avid Jimmy Buffett fan, Mike, along with Tina and other family members, traveled to several concerts. A custom knife maker, he loved collecting guns and tools and was a great cook.

Although Mike had none of his own, he was always ready to take anyone’s kids. He had several. He took them to the farm, rode the Kubota and taught them about horses, how to shoot guns and weld. Mike and the kids would visit the firework stand and buy the loudest, brightest fireworks they could find.

Cooking became his real passion as he learned a lot while traveling with work. Mike watched the Food Network channel and loved to read, watch Westerns and play with his four-legged children, Rex and Mona. He had a big heart and would do anything for anybody. He will be missed at Thanksgiving and Christmas because of his pico, crème brûlée and gumbo.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Buck Howard and Ruthie Mae (Mitchell) Howard; his brothers, Arvill Howard, Robert Parton, Kenneth Howard and Alfred Howard; his sisters, Fern Cariker and Sue (Tice) Howard; and a greatnephew, Waylon Keith Freeland.

He is survived by his wife, Tina (Rankin) Howard, of Wellington; stepson and daughter-in-law Forrest and Maranda Doshier, of Norman, Okla.; stepdaughter Samantha Doshier, of Lubbock, Texas; nephew John Michael and Mattee Holcomb, of Wellington; sistersin- law Mary Howard, of Weatherford, Okla., and Mary Howard, of Hollis,; brother Eddie Howard and wife Bev, of Edmond, Okla.; sister Barbara Howard Freeland, of Blair, Okla.; and a whole host of nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles scattered throughout Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri.

A Celebration of Life is set for Saturday, April 25 with the time and location to be announced.
