Patsy Martin, 91, of Wellington, Texas, passed away Monday, Oct.10,2022.
Funeral services took place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, at the First Baptist Church with her son, Keith Martin,and her nephew,Kerry Wood, youth and music minister of the First Baptist Church in Childress, Texas, officiating. Burial followed in North Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements were by Adams Funeral Home, of Wellington.
She was born Nov.22,1930, in Memphis, Texas to V.G. and Marion Badgett Byars. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1949.
Patsy married Wayne Martin on Jan. 14, 1950, in Lesley, Texas. He preceded her in death in 2010.
The couple farmed in Memphis until Wayne went to work for the Soil Conservation Service, located in Tulia, Texas and then in Claude, Texas. They moved to Wellington in 1957 to farm and raise the boys. She drove a school bus for Wellington a couple years.
She went to work for Wellington State Bank in 1969, after the president of the bank, C. T. Hubbard, came to her and offered her a job. Patsy retired in 1995 after 26 years of service.
After her husband’s death, she became the sole owner and bookkeeper of Martin Seed until May of this year, when she sold out to her son, Keith.
Patsy served as a member of the First Baptist Church. Her hobby was playing golf with the ladies, and she enjoyed many partnerships with her close friend, Martha Morris.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers and her great granddaughter, Lilly Tillman.
Patsy is survived by her sons, Teddy Martin and his wife, Kim, of Willis, Texas, and Keith Martin and his wife, Charlotte, of Wellington; five grandchildren, Cody Martin and wife Erica, of The Woodlands, Texas, Mindy Hogan and husband Rob, of Austin, Texas, Keith Clark and wife Lori,of Granbury,Texas,Traci Judd and husband Lee,of Logan, N.M., and Lana Tillman and husband Baron, of Wellington; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Wellington Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 321, Wellington, TX 79095.
