Robert William “Bill” Dean, age 90, passed away on Dec. 29, 2023, in Childress, Texas.

Services were held at 2 p.m.Wednesday,Jan.3,2024, at the Joe E. Jones Memorial Chapel in Childress Cemetery. Burial immediately followed in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Family visitation followed the service from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Childress Church of Christ Fellowship Hall.

Bill was born on Nov. 14, 1933, in Tarpley, Texas to Lewis Hope Dean and Neva (Silvers) Dean.He graduated with the Class of 1953 from Medina High School in Medina, Texas. He then enlisted with the United States Army and proudly served our country overseas from 1955-1957. Upon returning from Japan, he transferred into the United States Army Reserve until 1961. While fulfilling his commitment to the Army Reserve, he worked as a rural electric lineman in the Texas Hill Country. It was during this time he met his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Weynand) Dean, and shortly after, they moved to the Big Bend area. Five or six years later, they move to Childress, where he continued his career as an electrical lineman with Gate City Electric.He retired after 25 years of service at the age of 53. He continued to farm and ranch until the age of 89. Family was the most importance to him. He continually supported his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was heavily involved in Little League and the Childress Bobcat Booster Club.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Zerr; and four brothers; Glen Dean, L.H. Dean Jr., Donald Ray Dean and Jerry Neal Dean.

Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara Dean, of Childress; four sons, Kenny Dean and wife Liz, of Canyon, Texas, Timmy Dean and wife Courtney of Frisco, Texas, Randy Dean and wife Kayle, of Lubbock,Texas, and Scott Dean and wife Lee Ann, Childress; three sisters, Ann Lutz and husband Paul, of Hondo, Texas, Joyce Gray, of Hondo, and Sue Manago, of Stanton, Calif.; six grandchildren, Tanner Dean and wife Hannah, of Cloudcroft, N.M., Miranda McCurley and husband Matthew, of Childress, Weston Dean and wife Michelle, of Sneads Ferry, N.C., Morgan Martin and husband Tyler, of Sweetwater, Texas, Tucker Dean, of Arlington, Texas, and Trustan Dean, of Arlington; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Dean and Diane Cooper and husband Ricky,of Venus, Texas; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
