SAMUEL H. ‘SAMMY’ WATSON

Samuel H. “Sammy” Watson, 78, of Memphis, Texas, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family, on April 19, 2023.

His celebration of life took place at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, April 22, 2023, at the Church of Christ in Memphis with Mark Lance officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. at Robertson Funeral Directors, 514 N 10th, Memphis, on Friday April 21, 2023. Arrangements were by Robertson Funeral Directors of Memphis.

Sammy was a farmer for over 40 years. Farming was always his passion. Later, he and Sue opened the Deville Restaurant, operating the business for several years before opening their own restaurant, The Pit Stop BBQ, for eight years in Memphis.

Sammy attended Memphis and Lakeview schools. He also served on the Lakeview school board for 17 years and served as president for 15 years. He was also a member of the Memphis Church of Christ. He loved spending time with his family and telling old stories of his childhood.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Jackson and Francis Watson; two brothers, Doyle Watson and Doris Watson; one sister, Carrie Rena Schuessler; and a great-granddaughter, A’Leah Nicole Mestas.

Sammy is survived by his wife, Sue, of 57 years, of the home; son Junior Watson and wife Trish, of St. James, Mo.; daughters Melissa Foard and husband Brent and Clarissa Mestas and husband Ricky, both of Memphis; sisters Katherine Sargent and Effie Murray, also of Memphis; and seven loving grandchildren.
