Tommy was Administrator for Thomas Nursing Center in Wellington and then worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). He was an active member and deacon of the First Christian Church.

Tommy used his vacation time to serve with the World Mission Builders. He made 18 mission trips to build or rebuild churches. He was nominated by TDCJ and honored for “Texans Caring for Texans” in 2009.

Tommy served in leadership positions in the Rotary Club, Lions Club and the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. He delivered meals five days a week for numerous years and was a former Cub Scout Pack Master and Little League umpire.

He married Martha Caruthers in 1971, and their son is Michael Ray Thomas. Tommy married Bobbie Kelley in 1979. She preceded him in death in 2013.
